Yasuko Takasu, also known as Mirano, is the mother of Ryuuji Takasu.

Background

Yasuko is Ryuuji Takasu's thirty-three-year-old mother, though she refers to herself as eternally twenty-three and she has large F-cup-sized breasts.

While in high school, she began a relationship with an older man and eventually became pregnant. When she told the man about the pregnancy, he left her for another woman. Her parents insisted that she abort the baby and continue her life, but Yasuko refused, determined to protect and raise the baby. Tensions between her and her parents eventually reached the point that Yasuko ran away, stealing several items that she thought she could sell from her parents, including her father's watch. She eventually gives birth and names the baby boy Ryuuji.

As Ryuuji grows up, Yasuko tells him that she was married to his father, but he died before Ryuuji was born. She did her best to raise Ryuuji so that he doesn't make the same mistakes that she did and has a bright future.

Personality

She is klutzy and is never entirely in this world as she is usually half asleep.

Despite her laid back attitude, Yasuko is keenly aware of the mistakes that she made in life. She cares deeply for her son and was determined to make sure that he could focus on his education and have a brighter future then her. To this end, she is insistent that he doesn't get a job until after college, even if it means working herself past her limit to support him.

Plot

Yasuko works at a hostess bar named Bishamontengoku where she goes by the name Mirano (魅羅乃) and singlehandedly supports her two-member family financially. However, she has a childish personality and since she works, she entrusts the household chores to Ryuuji Takasu, although she gives him some encouraging advice to help his relationship with Taiga Aisaka. She instantly takes a liking to Taiga and already regards her as a member of her family, getting depressed when Taiga will not appear for dinner. However, she does get angry when woken up too early since she usually comes home very late.

Despite her childish, air-headed behavior, Yasuko proves to have a rather good insight of other people. She cares deeply for Ryuuji and sees his potential. To support his dreams, she took on two jobs so that he wouldn't need to work to support himself through school. When he starts working at the bakery, she gets upset because she wanted him to focus on studying rather than working. She refers to herself as Yacchan. 

Early on in her life she met Ryuuji's father who abandoned her when she told him. The pregnancy caused issues between Yasuko and her parents and she moved away.  

Towards the end of the series, she makes up with them and are on good terms. 

Trivia

• The name Yasuko means "calm, easy, peace, peaceful" (泰) (yasu) and "child" (子) (ko).

• Episode 1 shows a picture with a pregnant Yasuko and a man implied to be Ryuuji's father; however, this contradicts the later revelation that Ryuuji's father left when he discovered her pregnancy.
  • This contradiction can be explained as Ryuuji's father staying well into the pregnancy before leaving or as the man in the photo just being a diffrent person.
