Yusaku Kitamura is in Class 2-C with Taiga, Ryuuji, Minori and Ami. He is the secondary Male Protagonist, after Ryuuji. He's also the student council's vice-president and later becomes the president of the student council.

Personality

Yusaku is a male student in Ryuuji's class, and his best friend. He is the vice-president of the student council (and eventually becomes the class president), the class representative, and captain of the boy's softball club at school. He has a diligent personality and thinks he's poor at talking to girls, though Ryuuji observes otherwise.

During his time as the vice-president of the student council, he eventually falls in love with the student council president, Sumire Kano. A running gag is that he will appear out of nowhere behind Taiga and Ryuji when they are discussing a "plan of attack" to get their crushes. Like Minori, he has an unusual personality, but it's an expression of his friendship and appreciation, though it can easily get out of hand fast. In the Light Novel, after his graduation, he goes to study abroad in America, chasing after Sumire Kano.

Appearance

Yusaku has dark blue-green hair that matches his eyes. He is usually seen wearing the Ohashi High School uniform or the Softball Team's uniform. Otherwise, he casually wears pants and a t-shirt outside the school. His height is usual for a normal second year highschool student. He is also seen in an episode with blond hair, instead of his usual color.

Background

Not much is known about his background, but he was childhood friends with Ami Kawashima.

Relationships

Taiga Aisaka

Yusaku confessed to Taiga, but was bluntly rejected by Taiga a year ago before the start of the series. Yusaku was really broken hearted when Taiga rejected him, but Sumire invited him to join the Student Council to forget about his rejection. However, after Taiga's rejection to Yusaku's confession, she couldn't stop thinking about him and realized that she likes Yusaku too. Taiga regretted rejecting Yusaku. When she is around Yusaku, she instantly blushes or becomes nervous when he talks to her. On the new editing update from the authors they restate it saying that Taiga wasn't friend-zoned when she confessed her feelings to Yusaku, though Yusaku was still rejected.

Ami Kawashima

Ami is Yusaku's childhood friend. Yusaku is already aware of Ami's true nature since they are childhood friends. Yusaku is shown to have a deep concern for Ami. He even asked for Ryuuji and Taiga's help to be "nice" to Ami and let her know that it's okay to be her "real self". Ami is also shown to clearly understand Yusaku, shown when she had suspected Yusaku's real reason behind dying his hair. She's also shown to know Yusaku's grandmother in the OVA.

Minori Kushieda

Yusaku and Minori seem to have a really good relationship towards one another. This is shown when they went on the beach and deceived Taiga and Ryuuji. Taiga and Ryuuji initially planned to scare Minori, then Ryuuji would come and "save" her so Ryuuji can have a closer relationship with Minori. The two decided to tell Yusaku their plan, which he agrees to go along with. However, Yusaku turned the tables and teamed up with Minori instead to scare Ryuuji and Taiga.

Ryuuji Takasu

Yusaku and Ryuuji have been close friends since Yusaku knows that, even though his thug-like appearance, Ryuuji isn't actually all that bad. In fact, he's a kind guy! Because of this understanding, he and Ryuuji have become quite attached as they are once again, in the same class.
